On January 8, TMG published the True Costs of Food Database: the world’s first open-access food database to use a True Cost Accounting (TCA) approach. Covering more than 2,000 food products consumed in the EU and sourced globally, it provides comprehensive data on the negative environmental and health impacts and hidden costs associated with food production. From product-level comparison to calculating the hidden costs of recipes or menus, the database supports food systems research, enables effective food and agricultural policy decisions, and provides a tool for businesses track and communicate the sustainability of their products.
