In the journal Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, Prof. Dr. Tobias Gaugler, Lennart Stein, and Benjamin Oebel, alongside partners from the EU project FOODCoST (Aarhus University and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), present new findings on true price labels. The study is based on interviews with nine stakeholders from the European food value chain and examines their attitudes toward true price and true price labels. The results show that, despite general support, there is skepticism regarding the calculation methodology and potential price effects. The study emphasizes the importance of stronger collaboration between research and practice to further develop the true cost accounting methodology and transparently integrate external costs into pricing. The publication thus creates an important foundation for understanding sustainability—not only as a moral but also as an economic challenge, and to support political and business decisions.
