If you'll be at BIOFACH this year, check out the following sessions from Alliance members:
Feb 11 | 11:30-12:30 | NCC Ost | Level 3 | Room Shanghai
How can the organic sector lead in revealing the true costs and benefits of food? The True Cost Accounting Action Agenda, born at the FAO True Cost Accounting Summit 2025, outlines strategies to mainstream True Cost Accounting. In this session, the action agenda will be presented and experts from science, finance, and industry will discuss next steps for implementation.
Feb 11 | 14:45-15:45 | NCC Ost | Level 2 | Room Rigai
This session examines the quantification of coffee's environmental and social costs. The True Cost Alliance study has developed a novel approach to monetizing and accounting for social externalities. Experts from academia, NGOs, and business will discuss how these findings can be incorporated into economic and political frameworks.
Feb 11 | 12:30-13:30 | Hall 6-275 | Organic Out of Home
Using the example of a Nuremberg-based company, the study examined how the organic share in out-of-home catering can be increased, finding that a 5 % increase is possible without additional costs. Key success factors, obstacles, and limitations are discussed in order to derive practical recommendations for other company cafeterias.
The student project “TrueMensa2.0” at TH Nuremberg tested innovative nudging measures in four university cafeterias to facilitate ecological choices and promote more sustainable consumption among students. Experts from academia and industry will discuss how the findings, such as observed differences between age groups, can be incorporated into economic and political frameworks.
Feb 12 | 14:45-16:00 | NCC Ost | Level 2 | Room Kopenhagen
Where does the political implementation of True Cost Accounting stand in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland? Experts from science, administration, and business discuss how the ecological, social, and health costs and benefits of food can be made visible and integrated into market and policy instruments, as well as the role organic farming could play.
